A multi-hop wireless network is considered promising for next-generation communication systems because of its high applicability to hard-to-wire circumstances, especially in natural disaster recoveries and military operations. However, the throughput of a multi-hop wireless network based on the currently widely accepted IEEE standard 802.11 is so low that the further applications of the network are limited. In this paper, a slight modification of IEEE 802.11 MAC layer protocol is proposed for improving significantly the throughput of an IEEE 802.11 based multi-hop wireless network by allowing efficient simultaneous transmissions among multiple hops of wireless link.
