子ども学科における「看護臨床実習」の取組とその充実策

To improve clinical nursing practice at the Department of Child Development and Education, we reviewed the program for nursing clinical practice at the Department of Child Development at Kwassui Women's University between the fiscal years 2007 and 2011. The results are discussed as follows. With regard to the timing of the program, it is recommended that the program should be conducted for students at the end of their 3rd year degree course in nursing science and prior to clinical nursing practice. It would be advisable to include various aspects of the nursing process in this program so that nursing students can gain sufficient experience, understand the plan-do-check-act cycle, and improve their record-keeping skills. However, it would be appropriate to simultaneously undertake suitable measures to increase the quality of the clinical placement protocol, with focus on a more individualized approach toward instruction. The pediatrics department and the pediatric ward would be an ideal facilities for clinical practice training to improve nursing practice abilities, especially decision-making abilities. However, this requires cooperation between university nursing departments and the training facilities.
