上級学習者の漢字検索について : 翻訳課題における辞書使用

This study investigates the search for kanji in dictionaries by advanced-level learners of Japanese. Three learners were assigned the task of translating a Japanese text which included unknown words into their native language. Their search process was recorded on video and follow-up interviews were video- and tape-recorded. Data was analyzed according to dictionary type (electronic dictionary, Japanese-English dictionary, kanji-English dictionary, Japanese-monolingual dictionary), search method (radical, on-kun readings, stroke-number, jump-function), and achievement of task. Findings were that (1) learners mainly used electronic dictionaries correctly, utilized the jump-function; (2) a few incorrect searches were caused by the structure of dictionaries; (3) learners gave preference to the consistency of context over translations in the dictionary in translating the texts into their native language.
