Bioactive glass nanoparticle (BGN) synthesized via sol-gel route was added to conventional glass-ionomer cement (GIC) liquid by up to 5 wt%. A low-molecular chitosan was also dissolved in the cement liquid. The mechanical properties including compressive strength, diametral strength, and flexural strength of the GIC-BGN cement were investigated up to 28d. The results indicated that BGN could be utilized as reinforcing filler to increase mechanical properties and biocompatibility.
