A. Only in the lower tip of rhizome of Cyperus rotundus L. "Koobushi (Hsiang-fu-tzu), a stone cell is discovered outside of endodermis. The stone cell is columnar, its length is 30-40μ, diameter is 17-20μ; it has thickness wall and pits and layers are clearly seen. B. "Chikusetsu-Koobushi" is an article of market in China, and has been regarded as some species of "Koobushi". But authers discovered that it is a tuber of some dicotyledons, and moreover it is very different from the rhizome of Cyperus sp. It has characters as follow: 1. The external is of inversion coni- or spindle form; its lateral roots are unequal and little conical projections inclining downward. Its length is 1.5-2.0 cm., diameter is about 0.5 cm. in the thickest part, colour is brown or dark brown, surface is smooth. 2. The outer wall of epidermis has a cuticular layer that thickens in the form of lenses. 3. The stele has not endodermis. 4.15-17 vascular bundles exist in the stele and are arranged in the ring form. That is eustele. The vascular bundle is collateral bundle, but cumbium is non-developed either inside or outside of the bundle. 5. Starch grain in strage tissue is compound starch grain of 3 or 4 pieces. 6. The original plant of "Chikusetsu-Koobushi" is unknown.
