The complete amino acid sequence of [2Fe-2S] ferredoxin from Pueraria lobala (Leguminosae, sub family: Papilionoideae, tribe: Phascoleae) has been determined by automated Edman degradation of the entire Cm-proteins and the peptides obtained by enzymatic digestion. This ferredoxin exhibited 26-33 differences in its amino acid sequence compared to the ferredoxins from other leguminous plants [Leucaenaglauca (Mimosoideae, Mimoseae), Medicago saliva (Papilionoideae, Trifolieae), Trifolium pratense (Papilionoideae, Trifolieae), and Pisuni sativum (Papilionoideae, Vicieae)], and more than 33 differences were found compared to that from L. glauca. In contrast, 15 differences were observed between M. saliva and T. pralense which belong to same tribe Trifolieae. This suggests that P. lobata is remotely related taxonomically to other leguminous plants.
