Berberine-type alkaloids of Coptidis Rhizoma and glycyrrhizin of Glycyrrhizae Radix form complexes which are deposited. We estimated the amount of these deposits on the basis of the transfer ratios (γ_T, %) of the alkaloids of the crude drug. Model decoctions were prepared from finely cut Coptidis Rhizoma singly and from a mixture of the two drugs with extractant of various volumes. The transfer ratios of berberine-type alkaloids of the single-drug decoctions and of those two-drug decoctions were determined. As the results, the differences in the transfer ratio of each berberine-type alkaloid between these two types of decoctions in the case of the same volume of Coptidis Rhizoma or the crude drugs, which were expressed as Δγ_T, were unsettled. However, the differences in transfer ratio on logarithmic expression, Δlog (100/γ_T -1), were almost constant.
