Tale of Takamura, a story about an actual person Takamura of Ono (802-852), was written late in the 12th century by an anonymous writer. Though it has three kinds of titles as The Diary ("Nikki"), The Tale ("Monogatari") and The Poems ("Shu"), each indicates the same work. Two manuscripts are extant for this work, one is treasured in the "Shoko-kwan," A Memorial House, which was once a library of the Mito Clan ("-Han"), under the title of "Tale of Takamura" (Takamura Monogatari), while the other in the Royal Archive ("Shoryo-bu") in the Kunai-cho under the title of "The Poems of Takamura of Ono" (Ono-no-Takamura-Shu). The contents are nearly both the same. I revised the text chiefly on the former, while referring to the letter as possible. Even no less efforts were made to give indices to the wakas, those 31-syllabic Japanese poems, as well as to their phrases, to their epithetic stock-adjectives (makura-kotoba) and the rhetorical fun words of double meanings (kake-kotoba). The study mentioned above was made last year and reported in the preceding paper. In this paper the author tried the further indices to be provided for local names and for personal ones, for the general words, particles and auxiliary verbs.
