409 Fretting Fatigue Design Curve based on Stress Distribution at the Contact Edge for Automotive steel

In the present study, fretting fatigue behavior of bolted automotive steel plates was investigated by conducting fretting fatigue tests with plate specimens without groove and with groove at the contact edge. Finite Element Analysis was also carried out to evaluate the stress distribution near the contact edge. From the S-N curve plotted based on tangential stress, it was identified that fretting fatigue strength was influenced not only by tangential stress but also by compressive stress. Fretting fatigue strength of the bolted plate specimen was predicted based on the design curve with both tangential stress and compressive stress at the contact edge.
