The zeitgeist of the Song era was developed by inheriting and reconfiguring the philosophy of Kongzu and Mengzi to fit with the new era. Su Dong-po (1036〜1101) aimed to show his originality in the calligraphic theory while carrying on the torch. Valuing the works of Wang Yi-zhi in the Jin era as the best calligraphy, Su Dong-po established a new calligraphic style by studying Yan Zhen-qing and Yang Ning-shi who made new departures in the Tang era. Huang Shang-gu and Mi Fu succeeded the theory of Su Dong-po, but achieved a different style than Su Dong-po. The author visited the historical places of Su Don-po and took photographs which are included in this paper, but not found in any other references. Also with respect to the places the author could not visit, research was conducted by the use of documents such as local literature to find footprints of Su Don-po and to reveal the life of Su Don-po. The main places visited included Meishan in Sichuansheng, Chibi in Hubeisheng, Huizhou in Guangdongsheng, and Hainansheng.
