Mathematical statistics offers many methods for clustering of arbitrary sets. In most cases, however, the number of clusters has to be known in advance (k-means). Some recent advances in clustering theory resulted in methods like mclust (R package), which automatically detects the best number of clusters for a given set. Apart from mathematical value, clustering of end-to-end delay space has unique properties which can be exploited when separating arbitrary sets of nodes into clusters separated in space. This paper looks into some of these properties. Results of this research can be used for generating temporary community networks in scale-free and/or unknown topologies.
