Although browsers have already become the new platform for rich multimedia services, their performance in regard to multimedia throughput is yet to be analyzed. The only closest area is the analysis of Javascript performance within browsers. However, speed of code execution is only one aspect of browser performance. This paper proposes and tests a new framework for analysis of browser performance. The framework is based on SMIL and is intended to become a basis for future browser performance benchmarks.
