Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has developed a turbocharger system with variable geometry turbine nozzle for trucks and buses. A system was adopted that controls the nozzle vane opening in three positions according to engine speed and accelerator pedal signals. Maximum output torque has been increased by 12% over conventionally turbocharged engines, and the engine speed which gives maximum torque has become lower. This torque increase contributes greatly to vehicle performance. High reliability and endurance of this turbocharger have been fully demonstrated in both engine bench tests and vehicle running tests.
