The mycellia of Cercospora kikuchii (Matsumoto et Tomoyasu) Gardner mut. alba which was newly derived from the original fungus by light, contains, in addition to cercosporin(II), neocercosporin (III), amphicercosporin(IV), and protocercosporin(V), a minor component, precercosporin(I). The conformational structure of (I), yellowish orange needles, mp 246-248℃, C_<27>H_<22>O_9 (Found: m/e 490.11 calcd. for M^+ 490.12) was determined as perylene-3, 10-quinone derivative which was the same as (II)-(V). It was demonstrated that these compounds have substituent groups at 1- and 12-positions as well as at 6- and 7-positions, whose steric hindrance causes some torsion in the perylene rings and allows diastereoisomerism to exist with respect to the polycyclic necleus.
