The author injected aqueous solutions of lactic acid of various concentrations into rabbits and observed their influence upon the blood pressure and pulse. By intravenous injection of 0.5cc of 9% solution, per Kg, the maximal blood pressure decreased on the average 13.0%, the minimal blood pressure decreased on the average 13.3% and the pulse curve amplitude showed an average decrease of 29.4%, immediately after the injection. All these losses were gradually restored. In the pulse rate a gradual decrease was caused and about the time when the maximal blood pressure recovered its original value, the largest decrease, an average decrease of 12.5%, was reached. On subcutaneous injection of 0.5cc of 9% solution per Kg, the blood pressure also decreased but the decrease was more gradual and slighter in degree than that caused by intravenous injection of the solution. Intravenous injection of 0,5cc of 4.5% solution per Kg caused no remarkable change in the blood pressure or in the pulse. Comparing the action of lactic acid above descrived with that of acetic acid on which the author has previously reported, lactic acid as well as acetic acid decreases the blood pressure and on intravenous injection of 1 normal solution, the former acts somewhat more powerfully than the latter.
