The Kingdom of Cambodia is in the process of rebuilding the country after the "Paris Peace Agreement" in 1999. To develop the country education is, of course, one of the essential elements and sports in the schools also can be an important part of education. Therefore, Sports or Physical Education (P.E.) have been introduced into the school curricula through the great efforts of the regional officers who are each from their provincial office of The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS). In the Cambodian Constitution chapter 6 [Education, Culture, Social Affairs], Article 65 it is written: "The State shall protect and upgrade citizens' rights to quality education at all levels and shall take necessary steps for quality education to reach all citizens. The State shall respect physical education and sports for the welfare of all Khmer citizens" Both sports education and education through sports (e.g. after school activities, competitions etc) are increasing in importance in the context of Cambodian education for the sustainable development. This research is carried out for the purpose of collecting basic data on the present condition of school sports and analyzing problems of both school sports and of Cambodian education overall. To conduct this research, utmost cooperation was received from Mo-EYS Siem Reap Office and all the results were officially announced as a joint research by a report in Khmer. This research receives the financial support of the Japanese Ministry of Education 2004-2006 inclusive.
