The aim of this research was to survey and review the previous researches on student nurses' self-educational ability. The objects of the research are domestic literature on Japana Centra Revuo Medicina CD-ROM from 1991 to 2005 whose keywords are self-educational ability and student nurses. The results are : 1. There are a lot of researches on self-educational ability, which means a great interest in this field. These days there are more researches on the self-educational ability of qualified nurses than that of student nurses. 2. Some longitudinal study shows that older student nurses get, the higher self-educational ability they have. But there is also a contradictory opinion that that the senior studentsx ability gets lower. 3. The ability gets higher through their on-site nursing practice, but it is not significant. 4. According to plural reports, the comparison of different aspects of their self-educational ability in the nursing practice shows that their desire for growth and development is high, but confidence, pride, and stability are low. But many of the reports are besed on the students of college and there are few reports based on a suitable sample size which represents the population. 5. There are few interventional studies to improve their self-educational ability through their clinical training. It is necessary to inspect teaching technique.
