Observation of Shapiro-Like Step Structures in Current-Injected Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_y Single Crystals : Superconductors

We report the observation of Shapiro-like steps in the gap-sum voltage region of the current-voltage characteristic accompanying the negative-resistance behavior of a quasiparticle-injected Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_y(Bi2212) single crystal under microwave irradiation of 9 GHz. These steps appear at low temperatures and disappear at about 30 K, above which negative resistance disappears. The result provides an evidence of the existence of the Josephson plasma modes excited by quasiparticle injection.
