The purpose of this study was to evaluate leadership style types and the state of leader-ship in the development process of these types in trainees in a 1-year leadership course, who are nurses in the carrier developing stage, and clinical nurses. The following methods were used : 1) a survey using the leadership style scale, and 2 ) analysis of the contents of descriptions of problems and cases noted in nursing practice and qualitative analysis by the semi-structural interview method. The results of the survey showed that many trainees have faced various problems and taken the leadership appropriate to the situation. Analysis of the description of cases revealed the following : 1) The leadership ability and decision-making of the trainees affect each other, which decides the direction of the organization. 2) The quality and ability of nursing leaders are taking the leadership appropriate for the situation in overcoming problems in nursing practice, giving suggestions when people in the organization response to situations, and cultivating them into independent individual. 3) Leadership is an interaction between nursing leaders and staff, which affects the quality of decision-making.
