B-3-14 Performance Analysis of TCP in LEO Satellite Network with Shadowing and Handoff Characters

Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is the most widely used protocol at transport layer of the network stack. However, TCP does not fare very well in this LEO satellite network environment because of the LEO satellite network, a connection may be subjected to handoff, which can be cell and satellite handoff and the tremendous channel errors caused by the shadowing. In this paper, based on experiment results in some urban environments of Tokyo city, we calculate the shadowing and line of sight (LOS) times with different elevation angles between mobile terminal and satellite. And then we summarize the approaches used in existing enhancements in and analyze TCP protocols' practicality in satellite networks. At last we analysis of efficient of TCP throughput performance in LEO satellite network with shadowing and handoff characters.
