• We investigated the effect of paired associative stimulation (PAS) on the sensory-motor cortex. In Experiment 1, we studied whether the change induced by PAS depended on associative long-term potentiation (LTP) in the motor cortex. PAS induced an increase in the motor-evoked potential (MEP), but did not change maximum M-wave, F-wave, or the resting motor threshold (RMT). In addition, this phenomenon induced by PAS persisted for 45 minutes. In Experiment 2, we studied the effect of PAS on somatosensory-evoked potential (SEP). Central N30 amplitude was increased after PAS. Therefore, we suggest that PAS evoked associative LTP in the motor cortex, and had an effect on the sensory-motor cortex activity which was reflected by central N30.
