Professor Morimoto wrote a book titled "The Soviet and Russia" in 1989. It was written in a strained period just before the Collapse of the Soviet Union. I believe that many of his adeas appeared to be very inspiring. For example, he distinguished the appearance of racism from the collapse of the Sovoet Union. He supported the latter but criticised the former. And he pointed at a possible shift from the Soviet Union to the new Russia at that time. From my point of view, those ideas are probably rose from his standpoint of bourgeois civil society theory. He explained the history from the former Russia to the Soviet Union based on this methodical position. He also made diagnosis on the possibility that the Soviet Union should establish its modern citizen and bourgeois civil society. I examined his methodical position in a historical context of social sciences. I consider his bourgeois civil society theory as very strongly-built. He has been influenced from M. Weber, Japanese Marxism and Japanese modernism. But I would like to emphasize that the bourgeois civil society theory has been useful up to now but it is losing the utility after the stage of state interventionist capitalism in which 'socialism' in a local area was included. In this historical context bourgeois civil society theory has to be developed and reconstructed as a post bourgeois civil society theory from the perspective to strengthen the human rights (especially social rights) and democracy. However, I would like to express my gratitude for Prof. Morimoto who has given me many progressive ideas and shown the living democracy for a long time.
