Advanced Infrared (Air) protocol is the Infrared Data Association (IrDA) proposal for infrared wireless LANs. Air employs a Go-Back-N (GBN) automatic repeat request (ARQ) scheme at the Link Control layer to deal with transmission errors. However, the performance of the GBN ARQ scheme over the infrared links degrades for large window size and high error rate conditions. In this paper, we propose an effective error control scheme at the Link Control (LC) layer to achieve better performance for No-Packet-Level acknowledgement protocol in infrared wireless LANs under high error rate conditions.
