A simple and rapid radioimmunoassay for viral particles was developed. This assay utilizes a millipore filter as the solid phase matrix of the antibody. The solid phase antibody was prepared by passing the antiserum through the filter. The assay procedure consisted of three steps : 1) passing of antiserum through the millipore filter, 2) passing of radiolabeled viral particles mixed with standard amounts of viral particles or with samples containing an unknown amount of viral particles, 3) measurement of radioactivity of the dried millipore filter. During daily pediatric practice, it is sometimes difficult to diagnose acute viral diseases. The method we have developed can determine the viral particles in patients within an hour and will be of great help in diagnosing viral diseases.
