One of the most difficult grammatical parts for learners who study Japanese as a second language is understanding and using intransitive verbs and transitive verbs which can be morphologically linked with each other. The purpose of this article is to make a classification table and a chart which learners and teachers can use to alleviate this difficulty. First this article points out the problems about these verbs, and second it investigates the possibility of applying main linguistic theories to this classification table and this chart. The relationship between intransitive verbs and transitive verbs, types of these verbs, their relationship with voice, and the direction of derivation are referred to. The article also examines the accuracy of the modern systematic table of the Japanese syllabary, regarding its use for the conjugation of verbs.
