A Case of So-called Esophageal Carcinosarcoma

We report a rare case of so-called esophageal carcinosarcoma which is reported in around 0.3% of esophageal cancer surgeries. A 72-year-old man was admitted to our hospital for an intrathoracic tumor operation, which was diagnosed at another hospital because of discomfort when eating. Esophagography revealed at the mid-thoracic region of the esophagus, and endoscopy demonstrated an elevated type of tumor 8.5X5.5 cm in size that is located in the esophagus 30 cm from the upper incisor dentition. Since the biopsy specimens showed neurinoma, a partial esophageal resection with lymph node dissection was performed. The histological diagnosis of a main polypoid neoplasm confirmed the so-called carcinosarcoma, mp, n0, in stage II. The patient has survived for four years since surgery and is in good condition with no evidence of recurrence.
