The research is a part of the work of constituting the circuit constants and making the equivalent circuit for the calculation the characteristics of linear induction motors. As for the secondary circuit of linear induction motors, it is caused by the plain-shaped conductor that the current paths can not be determind and the current flows in eddy. Also, under the stators cores there exists the wattless component of the current which does not contribute to the thrust force. Accordingly, the estimated characteristics, which are calculated using the values of the secondary current obtained by conventional locked test, are accompanied by remarkable number of errors. In the research, the secondary currents and its space distributions are measured by the two-directional component and are compared with the values calculated by Maxwell's field equation. Further experiments included the determination of the influence of the conductor size to the load current and the thrust force, and through it, a tentative guide was obtained for the overhang length necessary for generating full out-put without decreasing of the thrust force. The experiment model stators used in the experiments are 'as follows: 3 running model stators which are to estimate the steady state characteristics and 1 stationary model stator to analyze the magnetic field in the air gap. In all cases, 3 mm thick Al sheet plates are used as the secondary conductors. It can be argued that there remains some problems concerning the improvement of the devices and the techniques to measure the current densities and the flow lines; and there is a need of conducting further experiments using pole pitch and air gap length as parameters to decide more suitable circuit constant.
