A study has been made of a new travelling-wave type single phase linear induction motor which has a primary prircuit as distributed constant circuit by primary coils and capacitors. This paper is based on J. Hiller's idea which suggested a driving method of induction machines by travelling-wave circuit. This investigation using experimental model of linear induction motor concerned mainly with the characteristics of this driving method and its applicability for linear induction motors. The experiment proved that aplying the driving method to linear induction motor allows variable speed operation by adjusting values of condenser capacity only, without any speed control devices. It can be considered that the travelling-wave type linear induction motor with such remarkable feature as shown in this report may be applicable to various small power industrial devices. As for the low efficiency of such as we used, which is in the 3 to 4% range, it is expected that high efficiency can be obtained by the improvement of the design of the model.
