Almost all electrical machinery, apparatuses and instruments have the air gaps. Strength of magnetic field in and near the air gaps is essential and important parameters in calculation of the characteristics of these machinery and apparatuses. Many papers have been introduced, but in the most of these, they have treated on the air gap as two dimensional problems, and assumed that magnitude of the magnetic permeability was infinity. The results dirived from two dimensional magnetic flux distribution can not be applied in the most of the pratical magnetic circuits, and the magnitude of the permeability is not so high. In this paper, the authors prepare several magnetic circuits whose dimension and shape are different. They measure the magnetic flux and the magnetic potential in and near the air gaps of each magnetic circuit. From these experimental results, they detemine new formulas for the calculation of the magnetic reluctance of the magnetic circuits having the air gaps.
