In order to obtain activity of silica in CaO-SiO_2-Al_2O_3 and CaO-SiO_2-Al_2O_3 slag, the electromotive force of following double cell : Fe-Si |CaO-SiO_2-(Al_2O_3) (I)| C (or MgO) | CaO-SiO_2-Al_2O_3 (II)| Fe-Si with ferrosilicon electrodes containing 42.1% Si was measured at 1, 630℃. The e. m. f. showed good agreement within the experimental errors whether C or MgO was used as the intermediate electrode and it was confirmed that C and MgO acted as oxygen electrode. The activity of silica on these system was calculated from the e. m. f. by the equation : -E=TR/4F ln a_<sio2> and the value was compared with the data reported in literatures. Further, iso-activity lines that correspond to the iso-e. m. f. ones was determined on the CaO-SiO_2-Al_2O_3 ternary diagram, which showed considerably complicated figures which might be responsible for the behaviors of Al_2O_3 in the slag. From this investigation, the most probable anion species of silica in the studied slags were discussed.
