Investigations on the production of pure silicon by the reduction of silicontetrachloride with zinc are described. Three parts are included in this report. In Part I, a fundamental research is carried out for the purpose of preparing pure silicon, which involves that the reaction between silicontetrachloride and zinc proceeds remarkably in their gaseous state. In Part II, the semi-industrial test for the production of pure silicon, which is employed in our laboratory, is described. A flow sheet of the process, equipments and results are presented to explain fundamentally its probability for the industrial modification. Then, an estimation of the behaviors of impurities through the metallurgical process is carried by the use of thermodynamic study in Part III.
