Some interfacial phenomena among liquid sulfur, solid and gas, among liquid sulfur, water and gas and among liquid sulfur, water and solid were quantitatively determined, and the mechanism of the extraction of sulfur from its ore in an autoclaving method is illustrated. (1) In the system of liquid sulfur, solid and gas connected by the adhesional work of liquid on solid, the contact angle of liquid sulfur was determined with fused silica and pyrite. The contact angle of liquid sulfur on fused silica and pyrite were 60.0°and 58.4°between 120 and 160℃. Due to the effect of the vaporization of liquid sulfur, it did not give true contact angle above 160℃. (2) The system of liquid sulfur, water and gas was studied by the formation of liquid lens of the supercooled liquid sulfur on the surface of water at 40℃. As a result, the interfacial tension between liquid sulfur and water was compared with the previous work. (3) In the system of liquid sulfur, water and solid, the interfacial contact angle between liquid sulfur and water on fused silica was measured at 120℃. The result by the drop method was 130.3°from liquid sulfur to water. This result showed that the difference of the adhesional work of liquid sulfur and that of water on fused silica was -31.0 dyne/cm at 120℃.
