The change of resistance in a transverse magnetic field has been studied in strong magnetic fields up to 200 kilo-oersted at room temperature. The metals studied were tellurium, cerium, antimony, iron, cobalt and nickel. It was found that there is a distinct difference in the change of resistance between the ordinary and the ferromagnetic metals. In the former case, the change of resistance follows the same law which can be expressed by a formula. This formula gives a square law in weak fields and a linear law in stronger fields. In the latter case, the change of resistance abruptly decreases up to a field of the saturation of magnetisation and then remains practically constant at stronger fields. The difference in the change of resistance between these two groups of metals was found to be caused by the foundamental difference in the origin of the conduction electrons.
