Several kinds of Zamak were prepared with zinc of various qualities and the change of length, impact value and the hardness in the steam test were measured. From the experiments the following were clarified : (1) Reelectrolysed zinc, having a purity not less than 99.99% is suitable for the preparation of all kinds of Zamak, showing no decaying phenomena. (2) Zinc of the purity 99.98% may also be used in case a suitable amount of magnesium is added. (3) As the Zamak 3 showed the least decaying among the alloys tested, electrolytic zinc of somewhat lower grade may also be used for this alloy. (4) The effect of cadmium on the decaying of various kinds of Zamak was also studied and it was shown that its containing is, generally, unfavorable, especially in the range fom 0.3 to 0.5 per cent.
