The reflected intensity and the configurational change in the Laue spots due to small tensile deformation were investigated with aluminium single crystals. A great change in the reflected intensity was observed after a weak deformation of about 0.2 per cent, and in some cases the increase in the intensity was about 200 per cent. The same experiment was carried out by the rotation method, and it was seen that in the initial stage of the deformation the distortion in the crystal conformed to the crystallographical relation of stress, and that the lattice bending became important with increasing deformation.
