Quadrivalent vanadium reacts sensitively as a catalyser for the reaction between potassium chlorate and potassium iodide in a sulfuric acid solution. There is no difference in the behaviour by the reducing methods, by liquid zinc amalgam, by hydrogen sulfide and by sulfur dioxide. Applying the behaviour, the relation between the time required for a definite coloration of iodine-starch and the amount of vanadium is found with the Pulfrich's photometer, which makes it possible to determine 5-50 γ of vanadium. Influences of temperature or some diverse ions are tested.
