According to the report of the Census in 1986, the volume of recent migrant increased from 5.1 million in 1976 to 9.8 million in 1986. And the rate of the recent migration for the same period jumped from 14% to 21%. The rate of urban population in 1986, however, stayed as it was in 1976, namely, 44%. The author analyzed the data of the lifetime and recent migration and indicated that the structure of internal migration has changed dramatically in association with social change in Egypt as follows; (1) The pattern of short-distance migration has been prevalent over the whole country. (2) The pattern and the volume of inter-regional and inter-governorate migration have continued to be unchanged. (3) The intra-regional and intra-governorate migration, especially, intra-rural migration have increased. In this connection, the social change in the rural society in Egypt should be identified in terms of value system and norm.
