e-Learningによる課外学習の可能性の検証

A variety of e-Learning methods are now being experimented in educational institutions in line with the development of computer technology. On the other hand, complaints about the lack of personnel and the unexpected high cost for maintaining computer systems are raised from those involved in the management of e-Learning programs. The present study, using an e-Learning environment, is easy to construct with very little cost. It aims to discover how effective e-Leaming is in language education. The authors constructed an English language learning program which consists of 10 reading exercises, 10 writing exercises and 30 vocabulary exercises with 300 words, and using this material, a remedial English course was provided for 21 students who failed in the previous English course. The course lasted 30 days. Students were given a pretest to measure their proficiency at the beginning of the course, and an achievement test as well as a post test which was the same as the pretest on the last day of the course. A survey to check the students' evaluation of the program was conducted at the same time. The results show that e-Learning is generally effective in English education, especially in vocabulary education, and the analysis of the survey discovered that the students were eager to participate in the e-Learning program and they were conscious of their improvement of English proficiency.
