"Instructional Design" (ID) is rarely heard in Japanese educational context, but it is a key word to understand any kind of education conducted in organizations in most developed countries. ID is defined as designing lessons by clearly designating the goals of instruction in the forms of "can do" statement and detailed methods and materials leading to the goals. Recent rapid progress of ICT has made its importance and needs more noticeable and remarkable because of its complexity and potentiality of applications to a variety of educational fields. This article researches what ID is, how ID is related to ICT, and what ID can suggest to an existed e-Learning language course, focusing on the necessity of "Instructional Design" in language education. It also attempts to examine the future trend of language education carried out by the use of e-Learning.
