Recently, the number of studies employing biometric data has increased. The application presented here was an attempt at age determination by extracting features from a skin surface image taken with a USB-microscope. Given that the human skin is variously affected by our environment, we focused on texture as a visual feature of skin because the changes in skin texture that accompany age can be interpreted as changes in "complexity." In this study we applied quantitative methods to assess this complexity using fractal dimensions. We conducted experiments to determine the effectiveness of using fractal dimensions to analyze skin surface images taken of subjects in their 20s, 40s and 50s.
