A fiber interferometer was used as a bolometer by coating the fiber surface black. Illumination of a very short light impulse was found to cause a damping oscillation of the optical phase in the fiber. The oscillation frequency was inversely proportional to a redius of curvature of the fiber. The origin of the phase oscillation is not clear but it seems to be related to a transverse vibration of the fiber which is excited by light impulse.
