1/f Conductance Fluctuations in Aqueous Ionic Solution

Conductance fluctuations were observed in CuS0. aqueous ionic solutionsover ion concentrations from 5 x 10 ' to 10 ' motel. It is found that the spectraldensity is approximately l /f for ion drift velocities smaller than a critical valuewhich is of order of 10 ' mis; above this value it approaches a Lorentzianform. The a-value of the l /f fluctuation is approximately proportional to theion concentration when it is larger than 10 ' motel; below this critical value thea-value seems to take a constant value 2.5 x 10 '. The existence of the criticalion concentration suggests that, if the l /f conductance fluctuations are caused bymobility fluctuations, the 1/f conductance fluctuation has a coherence length,which is estimated to be 10 nm.
