A melting (or freezing) temperature, in general, is considered to be dependent only on pressure. However, in a recent paper a new idea was proposed, i.c. the temperature of a phase transition between a liquid and a solid is depressed when a shear field is applied to the materials. In this investigation an experimental study was made with a Bi-Pb-Sn-Cd alloy (Wood's metal) to investigate the depression of freezing temperature within a shear field for a shear rate from 0 to 900 s^<-1> and the effect of the shear field on crystallization.
