Using several kinds of wire anode materials for positive corona discharge, growths of silicon oxide on the anodes were studied by discharging in air containing dimethylpolysiloxane vapor or in atmospheric air at atmospheric pressure. Though many silicon oxide needles grew on a carbon-coated tungsten wire anode, almost only silicon oxide film grew on a platinum wire anode. However, when the surface of the platinum wire anode was contaminated with NaOH, a large amount of needles grow on the anode. In this study, the importance of the surface of the wire anode for the growth of silicon oxide needles was found.
