Effect of Pr Impurity on Blue Tm^<3+> Luminescence in Y_2O_2S Phosphor

The quenching mechanism of blue Tm^<3+> luminescence in Y_2O_2S phosphors due to residual Pr^<3+> ions has been studied. Results of photoluminescence and excitation spectra measttrements and selective excitation measurements of Y_2O_2S:Tm^<3+>, Pr^<3+> phosphors show that there is no energy transfer between Tm^<3+> and Pr^<3+> centers. The quenching of the blue Tm^<3+> emission by Pr^<3+> ions can be ascribed to the large electron-hole capture cross section of Pr^<3+> centers.
