Many FIR Laser Emissions Pumped by a TEA-C0_2 Laser with Etalon Tuning

Using the pumping light of a TEA-C02 laser with etalon tuning, we have observed more than 90 new FIR laser lines from CH_3OH, CH_2Cl_2, C_2H_5OH, CF_3Br, HCOOH, and D,O. These new lines are obtained from effective excitations using an etalon, which enables us to operate the TEA-CO_2 laser as a tunable source with single-mode emission. Furthermore, it has been found that many FIR laser lines which were previously reported only with cw-CO_2 laser pumpings also oscillate for CH_3OH, HCOOH, CH_3Br and CH_3I. These lines and the newly discovered lines are the results of using an FIR resonator of more than 3 m in length which has a high 〓-factor. The 〓-factor can be calculated based on the waveforms of Raman FIR laser emissions from NH_3. The waveforms are in good agreement with theoretical predictions.
