In discharge tubes of small radius such as gas laser tubes, the ratio of the group to phase velocity is larger than unity. The present paper shows that this discrepancy is mainly due to the finite radius effect. First, experimental results are given. Next, Pekarek's theory is modified by including the effect-mentioned above, and the result is then compared with the experiment.
