In order to clarify the charging mechanism of a photoconductive layer for electrophotography with a do-biased conductive roller, we conducted contact charging tests both in air and in vacuum. From the difference between the charging characteristics in air and those in vacuum, we recognized both gaseous discharges at the interface and charge injection as the charging mechanisms.
