The transmission electron microscopic investigation of the thin foil of an aluminium-silver alloy has revealed the operation of a spiral type of Frank-Read source induced by high-intensity and fine-focus illumination. A part of a dislocation whose Burgers vector lies in the slip plane has rotated around the point of emergence of the other part of the dislocation not lying in the same slip plane. It has been observed that the source has emitted at least seven dislocation loops in the life time. The nature of the dislocation has been defined from the cross slip traces. The thickness of the foil has also been estimated, from the width of the slip traces and the surface orientation, at about 5700 Å.
