Modified floating zone technique is proposed to draw fiber single crystal for infrared optical waveguides. Using this technique, KRS-5 fiber single crystals with 0.6〜1 mm in diameter were prepared at the high growth rate of 0.5〜3 cm/min up to 2m in length. The fiber crystals have a circular cross-section and high plasticity to be bent freely at room temperature.
